Managing kids’ behavior in a group can be daunting. Teachers face this task daily, but many others encounter kids in groups as well, like at a birthday party, class, or camp activity. How do you keep a group of kids on task? What should you do when one starts to act out? Will they all follow suit?
Therapist Maddy Lawler, LMSW, of Small Brooklyn Psychology, discussed these situations and provided concrete strategies for managing group behavior. These tools are well suited for anyone who works with kids in groups or in a classroom, as well as for parents looking to help their own child succeed around a group of peers. At the end, Maddy answered participants’ questions, moderated by Dr. Mandi White-Ajmani.
