Have you tried to reassure your anxious child? Have you told them that the worst case scenario is very unlikely? Or that there is nothing to be afraid of? Despite your best efforts, do they continue to worry?
Dr. Ben Johnides, formerly of Small Brooklyn Psychology, talked through a brief overview of anxiety, how most treatment methods work, and important factors that may influence treatment outcomes. He also discussed safety behaviors, accommodating behaviors, and helpful ways to respond to a child who is struggling with symptoms of anxiety. He gives lots of examples and illustrates how these behaviors might appear in a family’s daily interactions. At the end, Ben answers participants’ questions, moderated by Dr. Mandi White-Ajmani.
